Real UK data from 4,935 Land Rover engine replacement enquiries in 2025. This page shows how enquiry volumes vary across UK regions, reflecting ownership density as much as regional reliability patterns.
Land Rover engine replacement enquiries are not evenly distributed across the UK. The South East and South West show the highest absolute enquiry volumes, consistent with higher regional ownership of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models. Scotland and the North of England show a higher proportion of Defender and Discovery enquiries relative to Range Rover.

Source: The regional data on this page is derived from the same internal CRM quote-request data as our other Tier 5 reports — EnginesMarket.co.uk and EngineFinders.co.uk, combined. Full calendar year 2025. 24,650 unique quote requests across all brands; 4,935 specifically Land Rover and Range Rover engines.
How regional data is collected: customer postcode or location is captured at the point of enquiry. We aggregate by UK region using standard ONS region definitions. The data shows the location of the enquirer, not the location of the vehicle — though these are typically the same.
What this data cannot tell you: regional enquiry volume reflects Land Rover ownership density, not regional failure rates. A region with more Land Rovers will naturally generate more enquiries. We do not claim that engines fail more frequently in one region than another. The data is presented to help owners understand regional availability of specialists and typical wait times, not to compare reliability across regions.
Refresh cycle: annually, each February, covering the prior full calendar year. Figures are locked at time of publication and are not silently revised.

The regional enquiry distribution broadly tracks Land Rover ownership density rather than any regional difference in driving conditions or climate. The South East and South West show the highest absolute enquiry volumes, consistent with higher regional ownership of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models specifically.

The pattern broadly tracks Land Rover ownership density rather than any regional difference in driving conditions or climate. Specialist availability and typical wait times vary by region — our registration lookup tool and specialist network account for this when routing your enquiry.
The regional enquiry distribution shown above is useful for two reasons. First, it tells you where you're most likely to find a specialist quickly. The South East and London have the highest specialist density, but also the highest labour rates — typical indie rates in the South East are £75–£90/hr compared to £55–£65/hr in the North. Second, it helps set expectations for wait times and parts availability. Regions with high enquiry volumes typically have better parts availability but longer waiting times for specialist appointments.
Scotland and the North of England show a higher proportion of Defender and Discovery enquiries relative to Range Rover, consistent with more rural and off-road-oriented use in those regions. None of this changes the failure mechanisms described elsewhere on this site — a 306DT crankshaft bearing fails the same way regardless of postcode — but it does mean specialist availability and typical wait times vary by region, which our specialist network accounts for when routing your enquiry.
If you're in a region with lower specialist density (e.g., Wales, Northern Ireland, North East), you may need to travel further for a specialist. Our registration lookup tool and specialist network can help you find the nearest vetted specialist and compare quotes.
The mix of models generating enquiries varies significantly by region, which in turn affects the engine mix and the types of repairs needed.
The South East and London show the highest proportion of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport enquiries. These are typically 306DT, 508PS and 204DTD-powered vehicles. The high value of these vehicles means the 60% replacement threshold is rarely crossed — replacement is almost always financially viable. However, labour rates are significantly higher — typical indie rates in the South East are £75–£90/hr compared to £55–£65/hr in the North.
Scotland and the North of England show a higher proportion of Defender and Discovery enquiries relative to Range Rover. These are typically 204DTD, TD5 and 224DT-powered vehicles. Lower vehicle values in some cases mean the 60% threshold is closer — particularly for Freelander 2 and older Discovery models. Labour rates are lower, but specialist density is lower too, which can mean longer travel times for specialist appointments.
The South West shows a balanced mix of Range Rover, Discovery and Defender enquiries. The region has strong Land Rover ownership in rural and coastal areas, with a mix of high-value Range Rovers and older Defenders and Discoveries. Specialist availability is moderate, with clusters in Bristol, Devon and Cornwall.
For a full model-by-model breakdown of enquiry volumes, see the Most Enquired Models page. For region-specific repair costs, see the Labour Rates & Fitting Times page.
The South East has the highest absolute enquiry volume, followed by the South West and London & Home Counties. This reflects higher Land Rover ownership density in these regions rather than higher failure rates.
There is no evidence that Land Rover engines fail more in one region than another. Regional enquiry volume reflects ownership density — a region with more Land Rovers will naturally generate more enquiries. The failure mechanisms are the same regardless of postcode.
Yes. Typical indie labour rates in the North of England and Scotland are £55–£65/hr, compared to £75–£90/hr in the South East and London. This can significantly affect the fitted cost of an engine replacement.
Region affects both labour costs and specialist availability. If you're in a region with higher labour rates, the fitted cost of a replacement engine will be higher. Use our Repair vs Replace Calculator for a personalised assessment based on your vehicle and location.
Yes. The South East and London have the highest specialist density. Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the North East have lower specialist density, which can mean longer travel times for specialist appointments. Our specialist network covers all regions — use our registration lookup tool to find the nearest vetted specialist.
