Our Editorial Standards & Independence Policy

We believe in transparency. This page sets out exactly how we create content, how we manage our commercial relationships, and how we hold ourselves accountable. If we get something wrong, we correct it publicly.

for Land Rover

We are an independent editorial resource, not a garage, and not a sales agent. This site exists to help Land Rover owners make informed decisions about engine replacement and repair. Our editorial standards are guided by one principle: tell the truth, even when it costs us an enquiry.

Read the full policy below, including how we handle conflicts, what we don't do, and how we work with experts.

Our Editorial Standards

We publish content that is accurate, useful, and honest — even when the answer is "don't replace it."

Every article, failure page, cost guide, and data report on this site is written with the same goal: to give Land Rover owners the information they need to make confident decisions. We do not sensationalise failures, we do not exaggerate costs, and we never invent statistics.

Our content is based on real enquiry data from EnginesMarket.co.uk and EngineFinders.co.uk, cross‑referenced with manufacturer technical service bulletins, independent workshop feedback, and post‑sale owner surveys. We also consult with mechanics who rebuild these engines daily.

We avoid jargon where possible, and when we use technical terms we define them. We write for owners, not mechanics — though mechanics are welcome to read too.

Our specialist vetting criteria and data verification are published separately, and our expert panel reviews our content for technical accuracy.

Our Independence & Commercial Relationships

We are paid by specialists for the enquiries we send them — and we disclose that openly.

This site is free to use because specialists pay us a fee for every enquiry we route to them. You pay us nothing, and we take no commission on any repair work. That model is sustainable only if we are trusted — and trust comes from telling the truth, not from maximising enquiries.

That is why we have a repair vs replace framework that includes a 60% threshold: if a reconditioned engine costs more than 60% of the vehicle's current market value, we tell you to consider scrapping it. We also have dedicated pages like is it worth replacing a Freelander engine and when should you scrap a Land Rover — pages that explicitly discourage replacement. We run these because they are the right advice, not because they generate revenue.

We never accept payment to recommend a specific specialist, and we never place a specialist above another in our content. Our editorial standards require us to be impartial, and we enforce that rigorously.

Corrections & Updates

We are not infallible. When we make a mistake, we correct it publicly.

We maintain a public corrections log that records every substantive correction we have made to any page, including the date, the original error, and the correction. Minor typographical or formatting fixes are not logged, but any change that affects the meaning of advice, data, or cost figures is.

We also update pages when new data becomes available, when manufacturers issue new TSBs, or when we receive new feedback from our expert panel. All pages carry a dateModified in the schema markup so search engines can see we keep content fresh.

If you believe we have made a factual error, please contact us — we will investigate and correct it if warranted.

Data Verification & Sourcing

Every number we publish carries a tag that tells you where it came from.

We use four primary tags: [EM-VERIFIED] for exact counts from our internal CRM (e.g., engine request volumes), [EM-QUOTE] for pricing ranges derived from supplier quotes, [PATTERN DATA] for qualitative failure patterns from expert consensus and TSBs, and [PLACEHOLDER] for figures that have not yet been fully verified (these never appear in published content).

Our primary data source is 24,650 real UK quote requests collected in 2025, supplemented by supplier quotes, post‑sale surveys, and mechanic interviews. We also use third‑party sources such as Auto Trader for vehicle values, and we cite them as [THIRD-PARTY]. Our full methodology is published on the Data Methodology page.

We never invent a percentage or a count. If we don't have the data, we say so, using phrases like "typically" or "many owners report" — and we never present those as verified numbers.

Expert Review & Oversight

Our content is reviewed by specialists who work on these engines every day.

We have an expert panel of independent mechanics and workshop owners who review our technical content for accuracy. They are paid for their time, but they do not influence our editorial verdicts or our choice of which specialists to recommend.

Every failure page, cost guide, and technical reference is read by at least one panel member before publication. Their feedback is incorporated, and any disagreements are resolved through further research. We also consult them when new failure patterns emerge or when we update cost bands.

We do not publish content that has not been reviewed for technical accuracy. If you see a page that seems to contradict expert consensus, please let us know.

How We Handle Conflicts of Interest

We never let a commercial relationship influence editorial content.

We receive enquiries from specialists who pay us. Those specialists are vetted against our published criteria, and they all meet the same bar. We do not prioritise one specialist over another in our content, and we do not give special treatment to those who pay more.

If a specialist requests that we change a page to make their services appear better, we decline. If they request that we add a page about a failure they are particularly good at repairing, we treat that request the same as any other content suggestion — it must meet our editorial criteria and be supported by data.

We also do not accept free products, services, or trips in exchange for coverage. We pay for our own travel and accommodation when visiting workshops, and we do not accept gifts that could be perceived as influencing our judgment.

Our full vetting criteria and warranty standards are published so you can see exactly what we require of specialists, and we encourage you to hold us accountable to those standards.

What We Don't Do

We are clear about our limitations.

This is part of our commitment to honesty. If you ever see something that contradicts these principles, please tell us.

Our Commitment to You

We will continue to publish data-driven, honest, and useful content — and we will keep our commercial model transparent.

We believe that the best way to help Land Rover owners is to give them the facts they need to make their own decisions. We don't want to be the only source you consult, but we do want to be the one you trust to get the numbers right.

We will update this page as our practices evolve, and we will always keep our corrections log and data verification pages current. If you have questions about our standards, we are happy to answer them — get in touch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you independent from the specialists you recommend?

Yes. We are not owned by any specialist, and we do not favour any specialist in our content. All specialists in our network meet the same published vetting criteria, and we route enquiries based on location and availability, not on payment or preference.

How do you handle corrections?

We maintain a public corrections log. Any substantive error — in data, cost, or advice — is corrected and logged with the date and nature of the change. Minor typographical fixes are not logged.

Where does your data come from?

Our primary data is from 24,650 real UK quote requests collected in 2025, supplied by EnginesMarket.co.uk. We also use supplier quotes, post‑sale surveys, mechanic interviews, and manufacturer TSBs. All numbers are tagged by source so you can verify them.

Do you accept sponsored content?

No. We never accept payment to write about a product or service. We also do not accept free goods or services in exchange for coverage. Our content is driven by data and editorial judgement alone.
