Our engine data is built from 24,650 real UK enquiry records from EnginesMarket.co.uk and EngineFinders.co.uk across all brands, of which 4,935 relate specifically to Land Rover and Range Rover engines. The dataset covers the full calendar year 2025 and is refreshed annually.
This page is our public commitment to transparency – we want you to understand exactly what our data can and cannot tell you.
Where our numbers come from – and who we partner with to collect them.
Primary source: Internal CRM quote-request data from EnginesMarket.co.uk and EngineFinders.co.uk, combined. These are the two platforms through which UK vehicle owners and workshops request replacement engines. Every record is a unique customer quote request specifying a particular engine code or vehicle.
Period: Full calendar year 2025 – January 1st to December 31st, inclusive.
Total records: 24,650 unique quote requests across all brands we cover (Land Rover, Jaguar, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Vauxhall, Audi, VW, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Renault, Peugeot, Citroën, Hyundai, Kia and others).
Land Rover-specific records: 4,935 of the 24,650 relate specifically to Land Rover and Range Rover engines. This is the dataset behind every Land Rover engine report on this site.
Trust and independence: This site is part of the Engine Finders network. We are independent editorial publishers – no manufacturer sponsors our research, and we do not accept payment for favourable coverage. Our data is proprietary to our own platforms and is not shared with or influenced by Jaguar Land Rover Limited, JLR Engines, or any third-party commercial partner.
What counts as a failure, what counts as an enquiry, and what we include.
A unique customer quote request specifying a particular engine code or vehicle. If the same customer requests a quote for the same engine multiple times, we count it once. If a workshop requests a quote on behalf of a customer, that also counts as one enquiry.
We define a failure as an engine that has been reported to us as requiring replacement or significant rebuild. This includes catastrophic mechanical failure (crankshaft bearing, timing chain, oil pump), as well as non-catastrophic but expensive-to-repair issues (EGR cooler failure, oil dilution, injector failure).
All data is UK-specific. Our platforms operate nationally across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

A number with no badge should not appear on this site – it is a build error. We are committed to sourcing every number we publish.
We believe in stating limitations as clearly as we state findings. This is what our data can't do.
Our dataset is not a random sample. It reflects people who contacted us about a replacement engine. This naturally over-represents engines that fail and under-represents ones that don't. An engine with a high enquiry count may be more failure-prone, or it may simply be more common in the vehicle parc, or it may be an older engine reaching typical replacement age.
We do not claim failure rates against the total vehicle population. We only claim enquiry share within our own dataset. When we say "the 204DTD generated 1,150 enquiries in 2025," we mean exactly that – not that 1,150 out of all 204DTD engines on UK roads have failed.
Mileage-at-failure ranges are indicative. Our Known Failure Patterns table gives typical mileage ranges based on customer reports and mechanic interviews. These are not precise statistical distributions – they are qualitative guidance bands.
Costs are indicative and vary. Our pricing bands are based on supplier quotes and specialist interviews. They are not guaranteed prices – actual costs depend on region, workshop, vehicle condition, and market conditions.
Our data does not cover every single Land Rover failure in the UK. We process a significant volume, but we are not the only source of engine replacements. We estimate our coverage based on our platform volumes and specialist network, but we do not claim to represent the entire UK market.
How often we update, and what happens if we get something wrong.
Annual refresh: We publish a full update each February, covering the prior full calendar year. This is our first published edition (2026), establishing the baseline every future report will be measured against.
Figures are locked at time of publication. We do not silently revise published numbers. If an error is discovered, we log it on our public corrections page with the date of correction and the reason. The original figure remains visible with a correction notice – we never erase history.
Image generation: All infographics on this site are generated from the same data and are not updated independently. If the data is corrected, the infographic is re-published with a new version timestamp.
Editorial independence: Our data is proprietary to Engines Market and Engine Finders. No manufacturer or commercial partner has editorial control over our reports. We state this plainly on every page.
